How HeartLink SA works

HeartLink SA is a connected cardiac care network. Patients capture their own readings, the platform turns them into a clear risk rating, and practitioners across South Africa can pick up care from there.

Your risk rating

Low risk
Keep up the good work — update your readings every week.
Medium risk
Book a check-up and keep tracking your readings weekly.
High risk
Speak to a cardiologist or your GP as soon as possible.

What we look at

Blood pressure
140/90 or higher counts as a major flag; 130/85+ is a watch point.
Blood sugar
Fasting readings of 7.0 mmol/L and above flag likely diabetes.
Cholesterol
Total cholesterol above 6.2 mmol/L adds to your score.
Body mass index
Calculated from your height and weight; 30+ is a major flag.
Smoking
Current smokers carry a substantially higher risk.
Age
Risk rises from 45, and again from 60.
Chronic conditions
Diabetes, kidney disease and previous cardiac events weigh heaviest.

Privacy and consent

Your health entries are private by default. A practitioner can only open your record once you accept their request or you book and approve them as your care provider. You can see every practitioner linked to you from your dashboard.

HeartLink SA provides a screening indicator, not a medical diagnosis. If you feel chest pain, shortness of breath or numbness, seek emergency care immediately.
